Heather Wybrow, SVP of servicing for Prestige, participated in a women’s golf day with three leaders from Prestige. She’s encouraging more women to participate in business-related golf opportunities.
“Golf is a part of the business world – whether decisions are made on the golf course or not, relationships certainly are, and women must be participating in these opportunities. As a leader, I must help remove the barriers and fears often associated with golf-related networking opportunities,” said Wybrow. “Since I have experienced this fear, I know how easy it is to say ‘no’ to these events – I did it for years! After participating in my first scramble with the Women’s Leadership Institute earlier this year, I realized that while I may not be able to hit the ball every time, no one cares! I can leverage my love for networking and connecting people with opportunities that help women gain confidence in joining business-related golf opportunities.”
Heather invited Jennifer Johnson, AVP of legal; Stephanie Gallegos, OVP of collections; and Megan Rudd, AVP of docs and titles, to join her at the event to learn more about golf and network. The event provided a clinic to learn the basics, like the difference between each club, proper form, how to chip and drive, and golf lingo.
“I work hard as a leader to provide opportunities for the women I work with to network, overcome the fear they have related to networking and learn the value of creating, nurturing, and fully leveraging your network in their personal and professional lives. I sign up to attend networking events with them, invite them as my plus one, introduce them to people I know, and give advice on what to do if you show up and don’t know what to do! On the other hand, golf has always felt intimidating to me. When opportunities came up, I always had a reason that I couldn’t go. This year I decided to take my own advice, say goodbye to my comfort zone, and say yes to golf-related networking opportunities,” said Wybrow.
