Salt Lake Bees Having Heroic Summer

The Salt Lake Bees passed the halfway point of the 2022 home schedule with a bang in early July. The team hosted 14,354 fans on Independence Day, the first sellout at Smith’s Ballpark since 2018 and the third largest crowd in Minor League Baseball this season.

Following a 7-4 victory, the fans were treated to Utah’s best fireworks display after the game. On Saturday, July 9, the Bees hosted their first “Marvel Defenders of the Diamond” game. The Bees wore special “Avenger” themed uniforms on the field and were supported by Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres with photo backdrops and Avenger cardboard cutouts throughout the concourse to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Smith’s Ballpark.

The Bees enter the All-Star Break with 41 games played at home with a total attendance of 218,310. The second half of the season has the Bees scheduled for 33 more home games which include a three-day Pioneer Day Weekend series against Tacoma July 22-24 with fireworks following the game each night, two more Las Abejas de Salt Lake games, Princess Night, Go Gold Night and plenty more fun at the ballpark before the season wraps up the last week of September.

Bees Players in the News:

Salt Lake Bees pitcher Jhonathan Diaz was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week on May 2. Diaz makes it back-to-back weeks that a Salt Lake pitcher was honored as Pitcher of the Week, joining Cesar Valdez last week.

Salt Lake Bees infielder David MacKinnon was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week on May 23. MacKinnon is the first Bees hitter to be named Player of the Week since Brennan Boesch on June 23, 2014, breaking a streak of 141 consecutive weeks without a Salt Lake batter winning the honor.

Salt Lake Bees left-handed pitcher Jake Kalish was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month for May and first baseman David MacKinnon was named PCL Player of the Month.

Salt Lake Bees infielder Jose Rojas was named the winner of the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week award for July 11-17. Rojas joins David MacKinnon as Bees hitters to win the award this season.
