State-of-the-art laser projection systems, Dolby Atmos®, a premium, immersive audio experience, as well as heated power luxury recliners are a few of the amenities movie lovers can now enjoy at the new Larry H. Miller Luxury Theatres at The Gateway in downtown Salt Lake City. The LHM Megaplex Luxury Theatres at The Gateway celebrated its official grand opening on Thursday, October 7, 2021, with a James Bond-inspired black-tie event, just in time for the release of No Time to Die. The renovation project began back in February 2021 and temporarily closed the downtown theatre location.
“What better way to celebrate laser projection and the latest gadgets in movie exhibition than with a grand opening celebration tied to the release of the newest James Bond movie?” said Blake Andersen, LHM Megaplex Theatres president. “We’re delighted to offer Utah movie fans the newest entertainment experience at the Larry H. Miller Megaplex Luxury Theatres at The Gateway.”
The renovation project was several months in development. The new LHM Megaplex Luxury Theatres occupies the same general space as the original theatre location that opened to the public in fall 2001. The original lobby, concession stand, and auditoriums were stripped down to the foundation to make way for the new luxury renovation.
“We are thrilled that the new Larry H. Miller Megaplex Luxury Theatres at Gateway will have Dolby Atmos in every auditorium of the complex as they join a growing class of cinemas globally outfitting their complex with 100% Dolby Atmos. LHM Megaplex Theatres is committed to bringing a first-class presentation to the community and having Dolby Atmos in every auditorium will ensure a premium, immersive audio experience,” said Michael Archer, Vice President, Worldwide Cinema Sales.

The original LHM Megaplex Theatres at The Gateway opened on November 2, 2001, as part of a $300 million development in the former rail yards on the west side of Salt Lake City. The Megaplex Theatres at The Gateway was the second Larry H. Miller location after the opening of the Jordan Commons complex in 1999. The original LHM Megaplex Theatres at The Gateway complex featured 12 stadium seating auditoriums with capacity ranging from 200 to 600 seats.
The first Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres location at Jordan Commons in Sandy, Utah, is also undergoing an extensive renovation project involving the installation of more than 2700 heated power luxury recliners throughout all 20 auditoriums. An open house for the Jordan Commons location is planned for the holiday season.
