Doing Good Give Us 5 JAN–FEB–MAR 2022

Your “Give Us Five” Donations at Work

As 2021 came to a close, Larry H. Miller Charities enriched countless lives by distributing more than $500,000 to charities that help women and children. Focus was placed on supporting programs that address health and education issues. A list of contributions is located in the sidebar that accompanies this article, and highlights are touched on below.

In Arizona, a donation to Check for a Lump enabled underserved women to receive mammogram screenings, while a grant to House of Refuge gave homeless families access to transitional housing and services. Contributions to Arizona Brainfood, Valley View Community Food Assistance, and Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona delivered food to children and families in need. Homeless youth received assistance via funding granted to Youth on Their Own. Support was also provided to Habitat for Humanity Tucson, Angel Heart Pajamas Project, Girls Scouts, and many other nonprofits in Arizona, as well.

In California, a contribution to the Corona Police Community Partnership sponsored Cops and Kids Holiday Magic, an annual event that brings Christmas to low-income children in the community. Underserved families in the San Diego area received Christmas toys and food through a grant to the Salvation Army Kroc Community Center. Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation and Peppermint Ridge also received grants.

Charities in Colorado receiving donations from LHM Charities included TGTHR, which offers shelter and support services to homeless youth, and the Listen Foundation, which requested funding for a summer camp provided to families of children with cochlear implants. Contributions made to Treeline Pass and The Joshua School benefited those with autism, and a grant to Hope House of Colorado helped teen mothers become self-sufficient. YWCA of Boulder County and the Dumb Friends League also received assistance.

In New Mexico, a donation to the Barrett Foundation supported a homeless shelter for women and children, and funds awarded to the New Mexico School for the Blind benefited students who had special needs. A contribution to the American Legion Auxiliary supported Girls State, an immersive civics education program for high school girls.

A grant to Communities in Schools of Spokane enabled underserved students to have access to food, clothes, and supplies, while support for the Anna Schindler Foundation provided financial assistance to pediatric cancer patients and their families.

In Utah, a donation to the Assistance League of Salt Lake City went to Operation Healthy Teeth, a program that helps low-income children receive appropriate dental care. Through a grant made to Canyon Creek Services, domestic violence victims received therapy, while a contribution to Kids on the Move provided respite care to parents of children with special needs. A contribution to Create Reel Change/Mental Healthy Utah will support Labeled Fest for Youth, a program and event that focuses on reducing the stigma of mental illness.

Many children and families struggle during the holidays, and LHM Charities provided funding to 14 Utah school district foundations so that low-income students could receive not just toys, but coats, clothes, shoes, socks, and other essential items. In addition, a donation was made to KONY Coins for Kids, a nonprofit that provides Christmas to underprivileged children in Washington County, Utah.

Employee Give Us Five donations help Larry H. Miller Charities continue its work of enriching the lives of women and children who live in communities where Miller companies are located. We express appreciation to the many employees whose voluntary contributions have made a difference!
