Your “Give Us Five” Donations at Work

October Donations –

Through the generosity of Larry H. Miller (LHM) Group employees, LHM Charities has been enriching lives and fulfilling its mission of helping women and children who live in the communities where our companies conduct business. Focus is placed on supporting 501(c)(3) charitable programs that address the issues of health and education.

LHM Charities donated toward Idaho Diabetes Youth Programs for Camp Hodia’s winter camp. Youth who have diabetes participate and learn how to manage their diabetes while participating in strenuous activity.

In Idaho, a donation to Boise Rescue Mission is benefiting the nonprofit’s City Light Home for Women and Children, which provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, and programs that tackle the root causes of homeless. Programs that focus on the specific needs of children and female veterans are also available. Operation Warm received funding for 225 coats that will be distributed to low-income students in the Boise area. A contribution to Idaho Diabetes Youth Programs went toward Hodia Winter Camp. The camp offers youth with diabetes an opportunity to learn how to manage type 1 diabetes during strenuous activity.

Donations granted in Utah are supporting a variety of charities that help women and children. English Skills Learning Center received funding for a program that provides English language classes to the parents of immigrant and refugee students at Title I elementary schools, so they can be involved in their child’s education. A contribution to EATS Park City is supplying backpacks of food to low-income students, so they will not go hungry on weekends. A grant to People Helping People is offering career mentoring to low-income women, so they can move into jobs that provide a living wage.

RISE Literacy Center offers tutoring to struggling readers, many of whom are from underprivileged circumstances. A donation from Larry H. Miller Charities went toward tutoring scholarships. Funding granted to Bad Dog Arts is allowing underprivileged youth in Utah to participate in virtual or on-site art classes. A contribution was also made to The Happy Factory, a nonprofit that uses scrap hardwood and volunteer labor to build simple wooden toys that are donated to underprivileged or needy children around the world. In Utah, these toys are contributed to local children’s hospitals and shelters. Other donations include grants made to the Family Support Center of Southwestern Utah and the Anti-Bullying Coalition/Stand for Kind.

We thank those whose support of LHM Charities enables us to “go about doing good” in our communities. Together we are making a difference in many lives!
