Living Our Values – Driven By Heart

At the recent Leadership Conference, Gail Miller took a moment to recognize a handful of employees who exemplified what it means to be put others first in the course of their daily work. “I often hear stories about employees who are driven by heart. I appreciate it when someone takes the time to share with me a story about how our legacy is alive and well in the hands of our people no matter where they work,” Gail shared with the leadership group.

These employees are just a few of the many examples that can be found around the company.

Randy Baker—Total Care Auto

Randy works as a claims manager at TCA. He’s known for being someone who will help out in a pinch—no matter what that might be. The single mothers who work with Randy rely on him when they need help with their vehicles. In one recent example, Randy got that call that one of his co-workers was stranded at a store with a dead battery. He dropped what he was doing to get her back on the road. Over the years, he has fixed several cars for free, knowing that single mothers often have limited resources, showing that he’s a man of integrity and character.

Deb Jones—Miller Automotive Operations

Deb Jones is the first smiling face visitors see when visiting the corporate office for Miller Automotive Operations. When the COVID-19 outbreak created a scarcity of face masks, Deb took matters into her own hands and started sewing masks at her home and bringing them to the office to share with MAO employees. She and Lindsey Brandol (MAO) also rolled up their sleeves to package masks and supplies for distribution to other locations in desperate need.

Kristin Eckersley—LHM Nissan Arapahoe

Kristin is known as a creative problem solver around the dealership where she works. When many organizations were running low on masks during the early days of the COVID-19 crisis, Kristin saw that there were many leftover Larry H. Miller Day of Service shirts. She decided that she could make use of the shirts and provide masks at the same time by cutting off the sleeves and fashioning them into masks that her co-workers could use to keep serving customers.

Farley Hamilton—LHM Toyota Lemon Grove

Farley knew that when masks were in short supply during the COVID-19 crisis that masks needed to be made if the dealership was to continue to function. Without being asked, he enlisted the help of his son and daughter-in-law to sew masks for the service department employees. They were able to make matching masks for the team, adding some fun to a difficult time and enabling a feeling of teamwork and camaraderie. Even when masks became commercially available, Farley and his family continued making masks for other employees and their families.

Alec Holgate—Megaplex Theatres

Although Alec was hired to work in the food court area of the Valley Fair Megaplex location, he wasn’t content to just stay in one role. He took it upon himself to learn how to tackle some of the toughest cleaning jobs in a movie theatre and mastered these skills. Not only that, but he was more than willing to help in other ways, filling in or sick co-workers and generally making himself available for any areas in which he was needed.

Ashlee Bradshaw—Megaplex Theatres

As an assistant manager at the Megaplex location in Mesquite Nevada, Ashlee faced a tough year due to COVID-19, which often meant long hours and juggling lots of different roles. Still, in spite of her own personal difficulties, Ashlee handled demanding custodial work after-hours and managing her crew with a positive attitude and a smile. Ashlee’s dedication to serving her co-workers and her inspiring work ethic show that she is an employee who truly understands the mission, vision, and values of the LHM Group.
