Scott Garrard Named Utah Sportscaster of the Year

Scott Garrard of The Zone Sports Network, a veteran of more than 20 years on the Utah radio airwaves and co-host of the Hans & Scotty G show, has been named the 2020 Utah Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association (NSMA).

Garrard is a first-time honoree by the NSMA, whose members elect each state’s top sportscaster and sportswriter dating back to 1959.

Alongside Garrard, the NSMA selected Utah Jazz beat writer Tony Jones of The Athletic as the Utah Sportswriter of the Year. They will be honored during the 61st annual NSMA Awards Weekend, which are tentatively scheduled for June 26-28, 2021 in Winston-Salem, N.C., alongside Hall of Fame inductees Bill King, Larry Merchant, William Nack, Jim Nantz, William C. Rhoden, Dick Stockton and Rick Telander.

In addition to hosting his sports talk show with Hans Olsen for four hours each weekday, Garrard is the Vice President of Radio Operations for The Zone Sports Network, where he has worked since 2007 as a program director and show host. He has also served as the play-by-play voice of Utah State football and men’s basketball since 2017.

Other Smith Entertainment Group Sportscaster of the Year winners include Craig Bolerjack (2019, 1994), David James (2018, 1996), Alema Harrington (2017), Steve Klauke (2016, 2014, 1995) and Steve Brown (2003).

The Zone Sports Network is the broadcast home of the Utah Jazz and the only sports radio station in the market that delivers live and local sports radio coverage from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. The Zone can be heard on 1280 AM and 97.5 FM.
