Your “Give Us Five” Donations at Work

June Donations –

Through the generosity of Larry H. Miller (LHM) Group employees and wise management of its resources, LHM Charities has been able to continue enriching lives, even during these difficult times. Support for nonprofit programs that help women and children, especially in the areas of health and education, are carefully considered. Donations are focused on charities that assist those who live in the communities where LHM companies are based.

A grant to Arizona Helping Hands (Phoenix) is supplying mattress and bedding sets that kids can keep as they navigate the foster care system. This provides an increased sense of stability and comfort to these vulnerable children. In Tucson, a contribution to Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is supporting school food-pantry programs for hungry families, as well as a summer meal program.

In California, a grant from LHM Charities to Corona-Norco Settlement House is providing basic clothing and school supplies to low-income children. Increased needs are anticipated in Corona due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 crisis on many families. YWCA of San Diego received funding for support services offered to those overcoming domestic violence. These services include housing assistance, counseling, legal aid, and basic supplies. A donation was also made to Feeding San Diego, which has seen increased needs in local communities due to the impact of the pandemic. Approximately 76 percent of those receiving assistance from the food bank and its affiliates are women and children.

The Joshua School (Denver, Colorado) serves students with autism. As school closures became necessary in recent months, funding was granted for technology to assist students and teachers in transitioning to virtual education at home.

Food insecurity due to the COVID-19 crisis has impacted Spokane, Washington, where Women & Children’s Free Restaurant & Kitchen anticipated serving 2000 meals per week this year but saw that number rise to 20,000 a week during the pandemic. LHM Charities stepped in and provided assistance. A contribution was also made to YMCA of the Inland Northwest, which is addressing children’s nutrition needs over the summer.

In Utah, a donation to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for a summer/after-school program is helping refugee children close the learning gap that occurred when public schools shut down and switched to remote learning.

We thank those who support LHM Charities and the employees who contribute to the Give Us Five program, which enables us to “go about doing good” in our communities. Together we are making a difference in so many lives!

The donation to Arizona Helping Hands goes toward purchasing bedding and basic supplies for kids in foster care.
Larry H. Miller Charities donated $5,000 to Feeding San Diego, which will be used towards the implementation of drive-through food distributions, emergency distribution sites, increased food at rural mobile pantries and more, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
